Talk Yourself into a Better 2014

How’s 2014 going for you?

Sorry, but now we’re into it; 2014 looks to be starting off as another challenging year for many.
Can mindful breathing with mantras, gathas or affirmations change this?

Blue Monday

Last Monday, 20th January, is known as ‘Blue Monday’.
According to the Bristol Observer, it’s the ‘gloomiest, most depressing day of the year‘.

So if this week didn’t have the best start, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Peaceful New Year & New Moon Blessings

It’s New year’s Eve !

What better time to have a peaceful party for peace.
Well, not a ‘party’ as such, more of a gathering of like minds in solidarity ;~)
Riding the waves of the energy shift towards a new dawn for Earth.

As the birds sing in the dawn,
so a new light dawns on planet Earth.
Solidarity
Planets connect in love and peace.

Asket, Pleiades, via Shanti
* (Solidarity – unity of feeling and action)

“Here,New Moon
in this moment –
there is a gathering
of kindred spirits,
and all there is to do
is to allow
a quieting down –
just a little,Stonehenge stars
just enough to hear
a soft whisper
of calm and of peace
and then ever so gently
taking one more step
just a little deeper,
here,Sun meditator
in the calmest part
of each of our hearts
as we gather
in the peace
of this place.”

November Peace Challenge: Love Thy Enemy

* Tears flow from hateful eyes too.

But I suspect our hearts, like flowers,

grow big and strong with the waters of loving-kindness.

Chill our words not our voice

It is rain that grows flowers, not ice

When it’s warmth that it seeks?”

Quotes for Peace on Earth and Beyond

Bullying Prevention banner˚˙❤.¸¸.✧

“Love is the creative force of the Universe.
It is the fabric of all.
It is the essence of all.”

― Ashar, Pleiades. Channelled by Dawn Henderson in Starspeak

“Only by creating peace within our own mind and helping others to do the same can we hope to achieve peace in this world.”

“Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible. We all wish for world peace, but world peace will never be acheived unless we first establish peace within our own minds. We can send so-called ‘peacekeeping forces’ into areas of conflict, but peace cannot be oppossed from the outside with guns.”

― Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, from Modern Buddhism (link in right border)
This is one of my favourite quotes, because it brings the responsibility right back home to us.

grumpy-cat-yoda

“WWIII will be an interplanetary war”

(General Douglas MacArthur 1955, in his last speech to Congress, quoted by Dr. Stephen Greer).

Which seems like a bit of a jump from quotes on love n’peace; but holding the opposite minds of dislike and anger can easily become a slippery slope.
Isn’t this already a reality on this world?

The next world war will not started by aliens, (who aren’t at all hostile) but those who govern the Earth (who mostly are).
But whoever the governors are; hostilities only ever commence if people are numbed enough to believe their lies and follow their orders.

arms 4 war

In the perfect world, arms would only be used for hugs

And no war of any kind can happen if we, the people, reach out to each other with peaceful and loving minds instead.
Actions of loving kindness have a ripple effect that send energetic waves throughout the cosmos.
There is a power in this that can only come from love; because love is the fabric of the universe.

The Bell Meditation

“It’s the silence between the notes
that makes the music.”

– Zen Proverb

Figure from Pompeii

And it’s in the silent places in our mind where we find peace.
None of us want to be troubled and unhappy, but sometimes we just are.

This lack of peace in our own minds makes us experience and promote an unpeaceful world, causing feeling of disquiet to ripple outward from us.

(̆̃̃ڿڰۣ✿

Thich Nhat Hanh

So if we think, ‘I can’t do this’, or “What is the use of doing this? We may say that I do this because I want peace, I want happiness, I want healing and transformation. So the practice is the means, and healing and transformation is the end.”

˘˘
This sounds dualistic, but in reality it is a no-dualistic approach to healing, and to practice. We breathe in such a way that healing and peace are right here, in each breath. The means becomes the end, and there is no distinction between them.

There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.”

Quotes from Thich Nhat Hanh,
Taken from plumvillageonline: Art of Suffering Retreat: First Talk.

The sound of the bell brings us back to peace

The Bell Meditation

We find peace in our mind by using the sound of the bell to bring us back to ‘the safe island of mindfulness.’
It is a simple means of bringing the mind back to it’s natural state of equilibrium.

* The titles here are each links – to Tich’s introduction, and to the bell meditation itself.

As Thich invites the bell to sound, he is also inviting us to share in the peace it radiates. The warm richness of the sound envelops us, inviting our minds to find total relaxation there.

We can use this next half hour to still our minds, and find our freedom within.
Just for the next half hour, where else would we want to be?

And what what better feeling to share with the world.

Breathing Peace, Tich Nhat Hanh

Cascais Post Box 10.13 Jpg

Dear ones, in these troubled times we need to be able to calm our minds.
We can do this by returning to the present moment.

This will enable us to let go of our constant worry, and and find peace in ourselves, which will naturally radiate out to others.
This makes us happier,
and enable us to be more focused in what we think and do.

Thich Nhat Hanhc

Breathing in, I calm body and mind.

Breathing out, I smile.

Dwelling in the present moment

I know this is the only moment.

Breathing in, I calm body and mind.”
This line is like drinking a glass of ice water. You feel the cold, the freshness, permeate your body. When I breathe in and recite this line, I actually feel the breathing calming my body, calming my mind.

Breathing out, I smile.
You know the effect of a smile. A smile can relax hundreds of muscles in your face, and relax your nervous system. A smile makes you master of yourself. That is why the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are always smiling. When you smile, you realize the wonder of the smile.

Dwelling in the present moment.”
While I sit here, I don’t think of somewhere else, of the future or the past. I sit here and I know where I am.

I know this is the only moment.”
This is the only moment that is real. To be here and now, and enjoy the present moment is our most important task.

Calming. Smiling, Present moment, Only moment.”

I hope you will try it.

“Each human being exists within the context of interrelationships that include other human beings, all living beings and the natural world. In other words, each person is sustained by the interdependent web of life. By awakening to this principle we are able to expand instinctive self-love into an altruistic love for others; we are able to nurture the spirit of tolerance and empathy for others.”
