Nelson Mandala. A Hero of Our Time

I didn’t know Mandela had died until I read the tributes to him this morning. Just reading how much he was respected and loved says everything. Total homage to him.

He was dearly loved, and is an inspiration to us all.
That’s an important point, too.

Mandela Continues in Us

If we value Mandela’s impact on the world, the best thing we can do is
to try and adopt his good qualities as your own. If everyone who loves him took on even a fraction of Madiba’s qualities, the world would transform overnight.

~ from Kadampa Life, “I am the master of my fate” ~ a tribute to Nelson Mandela.

As the Idealistic Rebel says:

We need to pick up his words and ideals and carry on for him.
If all of us who believe in peace and freedom do one extra act of peace in his memory, he will never be forgotten.

~ from “The World has lost Nelson Mandela”

Mandela Quotes

 ✿ڿڰۣ

Reiki Heidi once asked on hereWhere are the people like him [MLK] today?? We still need heroes…

Maybe the answer to this question lies in Mandela’s

“A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.”

After all, it is within all our capabilities to develop these, don’t you think…?

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

By Marianne Williamson
(often mis-attributed to Mandela, but I’m glad he made it famous.)

The Magic of Doctor Who is Our Magic Too

50th Doctor Who Celebrations Today !!

I’m not the only one totally stoked about tonight’s 50th episode, am I?
LoL, far from it 🙂

˚˙❤.¸¸.✧

Why We Love Doctor Who:

 The Doctor’s Magic!

No really, he is!
OK, sorry, not everybody’s into Doctor Who, I’ll grant you. But an awful lot of us are. Maybe that’s because he is not so unlike us? He’s flawed and looking for answers same as we are.
There is something quite magical about the Doctor, what he stands for, and his inimitable style, which is quite uplifting.

˚˙¨*•.¸¸.☆   “Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly.”
 G.K. Chesterton

Yayy, and for me the Doctor is the sci-fi version of a Buddhist mendicant; wandering the Universe, giving a lift to those he can.

Doctor's note

☆*•.¸¸.

As for us, we have limited choice what experiences our will ripen for us next. But we can help others, whilst creating the life we want to live.

Travelling where we want to go

What Sign?

Rory: “AH, the sign does say ‘Keep Out’.”
Doctor: “I see ‘keep out’ signs as suggestions, rather than actual orders. Like ‘dry clean only‘”.

The Doctor’s capricious and unpredictable, and bends the rules when needed.
He’s not anarchic, that wouldn’t particularly be of benefit to others. But the Doctor does think for himself, and uses his intuition and inner wisdom to guide him.

This way of playing means the Doctor normally wins the games he finds himself in. He knows and believes in himself, and the magic of things, allowing them to flow as one.
Even when he loses, the Doctor’s magic sparkles and sparks with an understanding that the Universe is a big place, where just about everything is possible.

It’s like with us. The path you’re on might not have turned out to be going in the direction you were planning; but stopping to admire the view gives you chance to evaluate it, use it,
or change it.

Stardust - Krauss

We Are All Stardust

Krauss’s quote rocks until the last few lines.

That we are all born in the heart of a dying star isn’t just inspirational poetry, it’s scientific fact. (And used to be Cosmic Loti’s tagline ;~)
99% of the elements on Earth were formed at the heart of a star, and scattered throughout the universe as the supernova exploded into death, forming the basic make-up of planet and people.

Prof Brian Cox deliciously shows this here,
where he explains that ‘C’ is for Carbon:

Going back to Krauss, it’s fact that at the very least, Jesus was a historical figure who taught beautiful and profound truths which remain with us today.
Invidiously offending his followers is rude and unnecessary; and completely misses the point.

* nb. If you want to offend the deserving, then this is far more accurate:

Is this fair?

Where is the Meteor Show?

Perseus’s lights streaking across the sky can be seen with the naked eye, and although they’ll be all about, they’ll be radiating from his constellation. This is found between the tip of Cassiopia’s ‘W’ and the Pleiadies.

Looking up at the Pleiadies does feel kinda’ special to me ♡
And the beauty of the night sky puts everything back into perspective when you come back down to earth again.

Really, I only saw a few shooting stars between the clouds last night. But I’ve just realised how very much better I feel for it, despite a serious lack of sleep. (Hence the last-minute decision to share, in case you feel like experiencing some cosmic joy too :~)

“Each human being exists within the context of interrelationships that include other human beings, all living beings and the natural world. In other words, each person is sustained by the interdependent web of life. By awakening to this principle we are able to expand instinctive self-love into an altruistic love for others; we are able to nurture the spirit of tolerance and empathy for others.”

beautiful stories from around the world

A Child’s Song of an African tribe,

sung throughout its Life

There is a tribe in Africa where the birth date of a child is counted not from when they were born, nor from when they are conceived but from the day that the child was a thought in its mother’s mind. And when a woman decides that she will have a child, she goes off and sits under a tree, by herself, and she listens until she can hear the song of the child that wants to come. And after she’s heard the song of this child, she comes back to the man who will be the child’s father, and teaches it to him. And then, when they make love to physically conceive the child, some of that time they sing the song of the child, as a way to invite it.

a Child's Song

And then, when the mother is pregnant, the mother teaches that child’s song to the midwives and the old women of the village, so that when the child is born, the old women and the people around her sing the child’s song to welcome it. And then, as the child grows up, the other villagers are taught the child’s song. If the child falls, or hurts its knee, someone picks it up and sings its song to it. Or perhaps the child does something wonderful, or goes through the rites of puberty, then as a way of honoring this person, the people of the village sing his or her song.

In the African tribe there is one other occasion upon which the villagers sing to the child. If at any time during his or her life, the person commits a crime or aberrant social act, the individual is called to the center of the village and the people in the community form a circle around them. Then they sing their song to them.

The tribe recognizes that the correction for antisocial behavior is not punishment; it is love and the remembrance of identity. When you recognize your own song, you have no desire or need to do anything that would hurt another.
And it goes this way through their life. In marriage, the songs are sung, together. And finally, when this child is lying in bed, ready to die, all the villagers know his or her song, and they sing—for the last time—the song to that person.

~o~

You may not have grown up in an African tribe that sings your song to you at crucial life transitions, but life is always reminding you when you are in tune with yourself and when you are not. When you feel good, what you are doing matches your song, and when you feel awful, it doesn’t. In the end, we shall all recognize our song and sing it well. You may feel a little warbly at the moment, but so have all the great singers. Just keep singing and you’ll find your way home.

though a well known fixture around several of the city’s churches, known for his prostrations of thanks to all donors, it was only recently discovered that he has donated every penny he has collected — over 40,000 euros — towards the restoration of decaying bulgarian monasteries and churches and the utility bills of orphanages, living instead off his monthly state pension of 80 euros.
