Very English Reasons to Bremain in Europe

Wether it’s wiser to Brexit or Bremain is Anybody’s Guess
The EU has been around about as long as I have. Now we, the British electorate, uninformed by any facts anybody in power can agree upon, have to decide wether to stay in the EU or not.

ballot

Lucky us.
Most Britishers seem to be either confused or apathetic with regards to Europe. In truth, nobody really knows whether Britain will be better off tying the knot with the EU or not. Any opinion is just guesswork.

So here’s my best guess.
(Not that I think that voting on Europe will make any difference to a foregone conclusion, polling stations being as illusory as our democracy

For the most English of reasons (shorter queues at airports) I voted Remain.

Airport_queue

And all the health professionals I’ve seen recently at my local hospital have come from elsewhere in Europe. (They stand out coz my own British consultant is a right dick who doesn’t understand my wish to be pain free and not so drugged up I can’t think. At least people from outside our island tend to listen.)

I’ve got friends who come from elsewhere in Europe too.
Voting Brexit feels a bit, well, unfriendly.
Certainly the discussion in itself seems impolite. After all, Europe can hear us!

nb. (‘come from elsewhere in Europe’ is more to type / read, but the fact that it’s necessary is a reminder that the Brits are in Europe, anyway.)

I also like that Europe’s not had any infighting resulting in a major war recently. Being in the European Union might help this to continue?

Chaos in Slow Motion
Anyway “The EU’s rubbish, but leaving it will be chaos.” (Jeremy Hardy)
It’d be total havoc kept in check I suspect, only by the agonising slowness that characterises changes in British government.

The 4 horsemen of the apocalypse could be summoned whichever way you vote, according to who you listen to, so who knows?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯     deadpigcameron
Certainly not Cameron, our pig loving prime minister. Even tho he’s campaigning for Remain,  apparently his“instinct” is for Brexit.

I think Cameron’s clever bit of policy-avoiding policy is just avoiding responsibility.

There’ll sure  be trouble ahead whatever.
This is true whatever the government’s policies. It’s just in samsara’s nature for things to fall apart around us.

Sometimes that’s a lazy Sunday afternoon sort of disintegration; sometimes it hurts more; but entropy is the inescapable 2nd law of thermodynamics.

And when it all goes wrong, as it inevitably will given that we all live in samsara, a crappy state of dissatisfaction, unknowing and confusion; we can just blame Europe.
Il est simple, n’est-ce pas?

UK Elections: Go on, vote!

Find your local polling station, register and vote.

Nicola Sturgeon

No, really.
☐ Or if you really want to make a stand against the pointlessness of it all,
☐ at least go to a polling booth and hand in a blank card.
☐ Then a no-vote will be recorded.
☒ Or vote for someone you’d like to win, but probably won’t.

English voters could even draw an extra box on the voting card for the SNP party and put a cross in that.

* Since I can’t vote for the refreshingly straightforward SNP
I’m voting Green; the party that believes ‘in the common good‘.

I thought that would be less disappointing than when the winning party broke its pre-election promises.

election-cameron

Yes this is how I feel about Cameron too 😥

OK, that does sound a tad cynical, but who can blame me?!
No good just giving up and staying at home.
That makes for a politically apathetic electorate, and lets the bad guys stay in power.
Sorry, but it does.

Even if you think you’re making a stand by not getting up from where you’re sitting;
really all you’re doing is maintaining the status quo.

☐☒☐

Russel Brand eloquently and vigorously espouses idealistic and worthwhile paradigms; but his assumptions this time are none-the-less incorrect and unprofitable.

Not voting against humanoid Cameron for example,
is allowing him to stay incumbent.

Groundhog Day & Mercury Retrograde beginning

A time to be kind to ourselves and others, as Mercury gets into its loop-de-loop.

Groundhog Day

It’s Groundhog Day!

A very funny movie with a brilliantly spiritual twist 😀

Poor old Bill Murray living the same day over and over, until he got it right.
That meant developing a lighter, kinder mind; getting a sense of consideration for others; and basically wising up before he could move on and up into a life of his dreams. Because that’s how we get there, isn’t it.

Knowing this we can avoid repeating our mistakes, while creating a better space for ourselves instead.

Sense of Consideration

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso describes a sense of consideration as:

a very special inner wealth. It makes us become spiritually rich.”
He also says “it is like beautiful clothes that cause others to be attracted to us.

╰☆╮

Mercury Retrograde

This week is cosmically relevant as well.
Mercury is in his retrograde pre-shadow phase right now. It actually goes retrograde February 6th 2014.

Scientifically this means that the little grey planet’s trajectile loops back on itself, before continuing in a more direct fashion across the night sky.

Astrologically the effect of  Mercury’s swing backwards is all about about re-thinking, renovation, reforming… you get the picture.

The traditional advice here, is “Don’t travel, Don’t sign contracts. Don’t marry. Don’t touch electrics!” But the whole Mercury retrograde cycle actually lasts eight weeks and happens three times, sometimes even four times in a year! That’s a long time to hide under the duvet and a real waste of a truly magical time.”

Blue Monday

Last Monday, 20th January, is known as ‘Blue Monday’.
According to the Bristol Observer, it’s the ‘gloomiest, most depressing day of the year‘.

So if this week didn’t have the best start, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Peaceful New Year & New Moon Blessings

It’s New year’s Eve !

What better time to have a peaceful party for peace.
Well, not a ‘party’ as such, more of a gathering of like minds in solidarity ;~)
Riding the waves of the energy shift towards a new dawn for Earth.

As the birds sing in the dawn,
so a new light dawns on planet Earth.
Solidarity
Planets connect in love and peace.

“Here,New Moon
in this moment –
there is a gathering
of kindred spirits,
and all there is to do
is to allow
a quieting down –
just a little,Stonehenge stars
just enough to hear
a soft whisper
of calm and of peace
and then ever so gently
taking one more step
just a little deeper,
here,Sun meditator
in the calmest part
of each of our hearts
as we gather
in the peace
of this place.”

Nelson Mandala. A Hero of Our Time

I didn’t know Mandela had died until I read the tributes to him this morning. Just reading how much he was respected and loved says everything. Total homage to him.

He was dearly loved, and is an inspiration to us all.
That’s an important point, too.

Mandela Continues in Us

If we value Mandela’s impact on the world, the best thing we can do is
to try and adopt his good qualities as your own. If everyone who loves him took on even a fraction of Madiba’s qualities, the world would transform overnight.

~ from Kadampa Life, “I am the master of my fate” ~ a tribute to Nelson Mandela.

As the Idealistic Rebel says:

We need to pick up his words and ideals and carry on for him.
If all of us who believe in peace and freedom do one extra act of peace in his memory, he will never be forgotten.

~ from “The World has lost Nelson Mandela”

Mandela Quotes

 ✿ڿڰۣ

Reiki Heidi once asked on hereWhere are the people like him [MLK] today?? We still need heroes…

Maybe the answer to this question lies in Mandela’s

“A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.”

After all, it is within all our capabilities to develop these, don’t you think…?

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

By Marianne Williamson
(often mis-attributed to Mandela, but I’m glad he made it famous.)

I like that they’re smiling and singing in celebration of his life,
rather than sad and mourning his death.
