A time to be kind to ourselves and others, as Mercury gets into its loop-de-loop.
It’s Groundhog Day!
A very funny movie with a brilliantly spiritual twist 😀
Poor old Bill Murray living the same day over and over, until he got it right.
That meant developing a lighter, kinder mind; getting a sense of consideration for others; and basically wising up before he could move on and up into a life of his dreams. Because that’s how we get there, isn’t it.
Knowing this we can avoid repeating our mistakes, while creating a better space for ourselves instead.
Sense of Consideration
Geshe Kelsang Gyatso describes a sense of consideration as:
“a very special inner wealth. It makes us become spiritually rich.”
He also says “it is like beautiful clothes that cause others to be attracted to us.“
This week is cosmically relevant as well.
Mercury is in his retrograde pre-shadow phase right now. It actually goes retrograde February 6th 2014.
Scientifically this means that the little grey planet’s trajectile loops back on itself, before continuing in a more direct fashion across the night sky.
Astrologically the effect of Mercury’s swing backwards is all about about re-thinking, renovation, reforming… you get the picture.
The traditional advice here, is “Don’t travel, Don’t sign contracts. Don’t marry. Don’t touch electrics!” But the whole Mercury retrograde cycle actually lasts eight weeks and happens three times, sometimes even four times in a year! That’s a long time to hide under the duvet and a real waste of a truly magical time.”

It can be a fraught time involving unwanted complicated work, when things go wrong and need to be re-done.
Who wants to stop and re-trace their footsteps?
But sometimes this is just what we need to do; and Mercury is there to make sure we do it.
Re-evaluation can be a valuable process, revealing all sorts of interesting things.
Mercury’s retrograde is also about communication. With others, our environment, and also ourselves.
I guess in a retrograde it’s tempting to resurrect old arguments and demons. Since we’ll probably be more sensitive; we’ll be more likely to misread another’s communications (especially electronic) and make mistakes.
It’s actually a good time to shine a light on those little demons, questioning and re-thinking our feelings.
We certainly need to be forgiving of those misdemeanours and mishaps we’re all prone to, but especially during the next couple of months.
You know that critical inner voice we were looking at on here before? Pay less attention to its harsh judgements for awhile, as it’s likely to hurt more than usual.
Remember instead life’s dream-like quality, sit quietly, meditate.
All in all, it’s a time to be kind to ourselves and others.
Give ourselves some extra time and space, and swim with that planetary magic.
